At Bayview Chiropractic Health Centre we offer a variety of services.  Chiropractic Adjustments, Active Release Technique (ART) and Medical Acupuncture are among the few modalities we use to get you on the road to healing.  Read below for a brief description and we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

What does a Chiropractic Adjustment do ?

1.  Increase joint mobility and flexibility in a specific area.  When joints are not moving properly the small stabilizing muscles in the area atrophy because they are not being used.  This muscle atrophy will cause instability  and dysfunction in that area through decreased strength and proprioceptive awareness of the joints and muscles.  Increasing mobility can also take tension away from areas where nerves are being compressed.  This compression often results in a decrease  in nerve impulses to important organs and tissues.

2.  Pain relief, adjustments have an analgesic effect by inhibiting peripheral pain by stimulating the mechanoreceptors in the joint capsule.

3.  Increase circulation in the area and also the circulation of synovial fluid in the specific joint which helps to nourish the cartilage.

What does Active Release Technique (ART) do ?

1. When tissues are injured in acute trauma or chronic strain they become tight and stiff.  These tight and stiff muscles develop scar tissue around the muscle fibres that binds them together creating pain, inflammation and reduced mobility.  This leads to improper muscle function and chronic problems.  Active Release Technique breaks up the scar tissue adhesions that creates the pain and allows muscles to function properly again.

What does Medical Acupuncture do ?

1.  The needle stimulus interrupts the transmission of pain from the injury site to the brain (gate control theory, rubbing arm after bruise).

2.  It stimulates healing at the injury site by stimulating the nervous system to release specific pain controlling and anti-inflammatory chemicals.  (endorphins, enkephalines, serotonin, epinephrine, adrenaline).  These will stimulate faster healing and pain relief.

3.  It Relaxes muscle spasm by fatiguing the muscle through the electrical stimulation of the specific muscle.

4.  Increase circulation at the injury site to flush out the waste by products of inflammation that continue to irritate the tissues in the area.

What does Low Intensity Laser do ?

Low intensity Laser is a new technology that encourages tissue healing at the cellular level.  It stimulates re-growth of damaged cells and increases circulation to injured areas, reducing pain and inflammation.
